2010 Matron Stakes Preview

February 23rd, 2010

On Saturday March 13, Melbourne’s esteemed Flemington Racecourse will host the 2010 Blamey Stakes Day.

Eight races are scheduled to run at the meeting including the headline event of the day, the $300, 000 Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m). The other Group status race to run will be the $150, 000 Group 3 Matron Stakes (1600m).

The 2010 Matron Stakes is set to be a cracker as a line-up of some of the country’s best mares take to the track under set weights plus penalty conditions.

It is always an excellent idea to keep an eye on the Melbourne Autumn Carnival’s earlier mares’ races as an indication for Matron Stakes betting.

Mannerism Stakes winner Tootsie is expected to be amongst the 2010 Matron Stakes nominations

One particular race seen as an ideal preparatory event to the 2010 Matron Stakes is the Group 3 Mannerism Stakes (1400m). The Mannerism Stakes this year was run of Saturday, February 20 and was won by the Michael Moroney-trained Tootsie.

A local at the Flemington track, five-year-old Tootsie is expected to be amongst the nominations for the 2010 Matron Stakes and there is a chance the second and third placegetters, Be Positive and Flying Tessie, will too.

The 2010 Matron Stakes is scheduled as the eighth race at Flemington on Saturday March 13.

Nominations close at midday on March 9 and then the final field of acceptances will be announced on March 11.
